Rehan Butt – Speedy Right Out

Rehan Butt was an agile right winger in the Pakistan field hockey team. Possibly Pakistan’s Rehan Butt may be considered as the only superstar in whole of Asia hockey. In the year 2006 Pakistan announced a sixteen member new look team for the Doha Asiad under the leadership of Rehan Butt. Earlier Butt was playing as a forward player for Pakistan hockey team, which continued as a captain also. In the Super Hockey League in 2005 Rehan Butt the best player in Pakistan hockey represented Saudi Pak Northern Cavaliers Hockey team as an international forward player.

Pakistan forward Rehan Butt was in dazzling form as he struck four goals to steer his team to an inspiring 6 -3 win over New Zealand in the 17th Sultan Azlan Shah Hockey tournament at the Azlan Shah stadium Ipoh. This is the second time Rehan steered Pakistan to victory. Pakistan’s right winger hockey player Rehan Butt was declared best player of the 4- nation hockey tournament in Dublin. He achieved the distinction for the second time in the 42 day tour and their national team was in preparation for Beijing Olympics. He scored 9 goals in 7 matches to achieve the best player award in the Sultan Azlan Shah cup in Ipoh. Before this Rehan scored five goals in four matches and stayed as the top scorer in Dublin. Although Pakistan finished fourth in the cup Rehan was happy to achieve two merits in the same tour. Even though the tour was tiring and difficult to play back to back hockey Butt was happy that he could do his best role of a forward hockey player. Rehan played the key role in winning the morale boosting 4- Nations tournament. Rehan Butt’s ambition is to play an important role for his team’s success in the Beijing Olympics. Rehan Butt has a credit to open the first scoring in the 43rd minute against South Korea in the 2004 Olympics.

Rehan Butt the Pakistan hockey player, played for the Premier Hockey League (PHL) in India. His inspiring performance in the PHL was one of the key features in the Bangalore Lions winning the crown. Rehan’s lightning speed and the ability to score goals from unimaginable angles has seen him as a top player in the PHL. Prime minister appreciated the extraordinary performance of Rehan Butt. Although Rehan felt that there should be best umpires for key matches in the PHL he had all praises for ESPN for their wonderful telecast and the media for writing about the hockey players. When Chinese made their first ever victory over Pakistan by a golden goal captain Rehan Butt was unhappy about the decision of the penalty corner by the South Korean umpire.

When Rehan Butt took over as captain, Pakistan hockey team was in a difficult situation because two of their key players Sohail Abbas the penalty corner expert and Mohammad Waseem preferred to play league hockey in Netherlands. Butt took over bravely from the then sacked Mohammad Saqlain. Rehan Butt had great faith in his young hockey team to play in the finals.
